Anyone who runs regularly knows the feeling: a slight pulling sensation in the sole of the foot or a sharp pain along the shin bone. Often, these warning signs are ignored until they lead to chronic complaints such as plantar fasciitis or shin splints. But the good news is: you don't have to accept this pain as part of your hobby.
Why Runners' Legs Need Special Care
Running involves highly repetitive stress. The plantar fascia – the strong connective tissue on the sole of your foot – acts as a shock absorber and energy store with every step. Overuse due to high volume, unsuitable footwear, or lack of mobility causes the tissue to become stiff and inflamed.
The 3-Step Plan for Healthy Feet and Calves
To relieve tension in the plantar fascia, static stretching alone is often not enough. A combination of self-mobilization and targeted support helps the tissue best:
- Stage 1: Detonization of the calf muscles. Use your rollholz Pro Roller to roll out the calves over a large area. Looser muscles pull less on the heel.
- Stage 2: Targeted stimulation of the sole of the foot. Place the Mini-Roller or a fascia ball specifically under the sole of the foot and slowly work on the painful areas.
- Stage 3: Active mobilization of the ankle joint. Good ankle joint mobility is essential for runners. This can be wonderfully trained through dynamic exercises (such as lunges or "calf rocking"). To deepen the training effect and specifically challenge foot stability, you can also use our Balance Wedge Set as a supporting base.
Why You Shouldn't Wait
Acting at the first signs shortens your recovery time from weeks to just a few days. Your connective tissue only needs the right impulses to release adhesions and stimulate tissue rehydration.
